Outreach for Snakebite Mitigation

Every year approximately 60,000 humans die from venomous snakebite in India, an issue that is categorized as a ‘Neglected Tropical Disease’ by the World Health Organization. The majority of snakebite victims belong to rural landscapes and have limited access to information about snake bite avoidance and management.

In collaboration with The Humane Society International- India, The Liana Trust disseminates information and resources on snake bite, and works to lower the vulnerability of rural communities. The trust provides boots and torches to agricultural workers who are at risk of being bitten while working in their fields or stepping out barefoot at night, distributes leaflets at community festivals, develops and releases WhatsApp public service messages in the local language, and trains government authorities to respond to incidents of snake bite with efficiency.
